Superman Returns and other amazing things
So I hit 50,000 words yesterday. Woo hoo! But the novel's gonna go at least 60,000. I'm at 55,000 now. Still, I finished the 50K in 30 days, so I proved I can do it, and it was actually fun. Now we'll see if it's any good.

Saw SUPERMAN RETURNS yesterday. Definitely a cut above X3. I can see why both director Brian Singer and actor James Marsden fled the Marvel project for this one. (OK, Marsden was IN X3, but... really...) They made the absolutely correct decision to make this a sequel to the first two Reeve movies. It was very well done, and definitely evoked the feeling I got in the theatre 29 years ago (Oh, GOD!) when I saw the first one with [info]scooterbird at the ripe age of, um... well, I guess we would have to have been newborns 29 years ago, right?

Brandon Routh was downright scary at times, the way he channeled Reeve. Langella was a surprisingly good Perry, Marsden was a rival for Lois that you *didn't* hate, and Spacey brought Lex to life as a villain again. (Love Rosenbaum's Lex, but just can't bring myself to see him as a villain.) Eva Marie Saint was under-used, but a welcome sight. I had such a good time that I forgot to be annoyed that they'd worked Brando in again.

Of course, the star of the show was my almost-three-month-old goddaughter, Molly, who laid on her Daddy's lap and actually sometimes WATCHED the film, without ever making a noise louder than a whiny gurgle. (Wish the six-year-old next to me (mine) or the three-year-old in the front row (not mine, child of one of THEM, those people who aren't US) had been as well-behaved.)

You might have been a newborn. I distinctly remember that I was a zygote.
